The cake gets eaten, the flowers fade — but the music becomes the soundtrack to everybody’s memory.

When planning your wedding, you probably think of the dress, the flowers, and the food. But if you want guests to feel something — to laugh, cry, or dance until their knees give way — music is the secret sauce.

As a wedding DJ, I’ve helped couples turn moments into memories — No gate-keeping here - heres 3 tricks on how you can make it happen:

1. Create the Mood from the First Note

Music is like emotional lighting. A soft number from a cello or a band as guests arrive sets a warm, intimate tone. An upbeat classic after your ceremony kicks off the celebration with joy.

Pro Tip: Ask yourself: How do we want guests to feel in this moment? Then build your music around that.

2. Flow Through Every Chapter of the Day

A wedding has its own rhythm — and music guides it. From a soulful playlist during dinner to a surprise dance-floor throwback no one expected at midnight, a great DJ keeps things flowing naturally while building energy throughout the night.

3. Personal Touches Make It Yours

Forget cookie-cutter playlists. Whether it’s a 90s banger that played during your first snog to, or the song from your first 'official' date, custom music makes your wedding uniquely you. So spend some time and ENJOY pulling this together. Avoid leaving it until the last minute, I’ve heard wine helps :).

DJ Insight: When couples send me a short list of their favourite songs, I use it to create an experience that reflects their style, story — and keeps everyone celebrating with them.

Whether it’s your uncle dancing to Beyoncé or your best friend wiping away tears during your first dance, great music makes everyone part of the experience.

Let’s Make Your Day Sound as Beautiful as It Feels If you're dreaming of a dance floor packed with joy (and maybe a few happy tears), I’d love to help.
